LAND ART WEEKEND IN FLEVOLAND
SATURDAY 2 AND SUNDAY 3 JUNE 2018, 11 A.M. - 5 P.M.

The unique Land Art collection of Flevoland will be celebrated on 2 and 3 June during the Land Art Weekend. Visit the seven land art projects during this weekend and a guide will tell you all about the artworks on location. Kids can enjoy special activities. Flevoland finds itself in a unique position in the world: you can visit seven land art projects by internationally renowned artists within one day. In these polders, works are realized by e.g. Richard Serra, architect Daniel Libeskind, and Marinus Boezem. The Land Art Weekend offers a great opportunity to discover and explore these monumental artworks!

What is Land Art?
A new art movement developed in the United States in the seventies: Land Art. Artists moved away from museums and galleries and created a new kind of exhibition space for their artworks: nature. With materials found on location, they created small and large interventions within nature. Their artworks concerned themes like decay, forces of nature, and the contrast between nature and culture.

Dutch Land Art
The popular art movement arrived in the Netherlands in the seventies. Artists from the Netherlands as well as other countries were inspired by the new landscape that arose during the reclamation of the Flevopolders. At the time, this new island was one of the largest manmade projects in nature, and fitted in perfectly with the points of departure of artists involved in land art. From the seventies onwards, seven monumental land art projects were realized in the new polder landscape. These artworks by Robert Morris, Richard Serra, Daniel Libeskind, Piet Slegers, Marinus Boezem, Antony Gormley, and Paul de Kort are located in public areas and are therefore always open to visitors.
